Plaxo users worried about privacy in wake of Comcast buyout
So am i really being irrational?
After reading all the blogs i would say i’m taking a better safe than sorry approach.
How much do i actually need the plaxo service?
I actually don’t use it that much. It’s been more of an annoyance than anything else. I am also guilty of accidently spamming my whole address book & getting them to join.
Of course my data won’t disappear for the Plaxo servers overnight & does exist in backup somewhere, but for some reason i feel lightened today :)
“Acupuncture is not just for people. It’s also for cities — if the city is Portland.
Adam Kuby has stuck a 23-foot needle into the ground down by the Willamette River and hopes to plant more, choosing locations where he figures the city’s “chi,” or vital energy, needs some help.
Unusual? You bet. Unusual for Portland? Not really.”

After my visit to Portland last weekend then I can confirm that Portland is one of the quirkiest cities out there. It’s like a breath of fresh air & it really feels like a place were creative thought can flourish. Some people might see the rain as a potential issue but i see it as a god send. As other places dry up Portland will always have a supply of that highly underestimated resource - drinking water ☺. The Silicon Forest is also gaining ground as a major tech center & companies are upping roots moving to Quirktown. One of the latest on the long list being Vidoop. The tech scene/community in Portland is one of the most engaging I’ve encountered anywhere. I was there just for the weekend but ended up going to a Beer & Blog at the Green Dragon (actually learnt a lot) & a pizz-a-thon at @kveton’s place.
So how did my focus end up on Portland?
The answer of course is Twitter. Add people, follow conversations, follow interesting people that lead you to follow others. After adding a few thousand + then I started to sense a pattern. The most interesting voices for me were definitely weighted around the Portland Oregon area.
Actually visiting the place & meeting the Twitter @’s was a kind of odd experience from the point of view that you kind of know them already. Twitter has expanded my horizons & introduced me to so much great information. It does seem a bit weird that you can “know someone” before you actually meet them. But Twitter + Blog + Flickr gives a pretty good idea of who someone is & where to continue the conversation when you meet. The worldwide dialogue between like minds with similar interests is becoming more & more instantaneous. It really does feel similar to being in communication with a close friend, which lives next door to you. But “next door” can now mean on the other side of the planet. The strange thing is that having this reach has really made me think more about the relationships I already have to people close by. I’m becoming a more social person in every aspect of the word.
Portland: 13 out of 10 in my book & i’m allowed to use 13 because we are talking about Portland here :)
I’ve been meaning to get these demos in one place for a while.
As i’m sick today this gave me the perfect excuse to track them down. I hope you enjoy them as much as i did.
