Company performance ranking research as a byproduct of a tweet
Twitter as a catalyst for a new research thread
Per usual, a Twitter link takes me to a site that leads to a conversation that throws me into some tangential research around a seemingly random topic. Here’s the latest “idea that totally absorbs/inspired/drives me to find out more”, experience.
Rick Turoczy tweeted this: turoczy: Like ReadWriteWeb (@rww)? Good. You’ll probably like it even more, now that it’s a Portland blog. http://twurl.cc/1y4
I follow the link & on the Silicon Florist I read the following post: ReadWriteWeb, the Adidas of tech blogs, now a Portland blog
I tweeted to Rick that i liked the metaphor he used in the title and he tweets back: turoczy: @steveswrong Pleased that metaphor works on a variety of levels: extremely successful yet 2nd, international flare, and of course, Portland
As a result of this, I became inspired to research how to find out about ranking of companies. The trigger was Rick’s explanation of the use of a metaphor from his post he linked to from a tweet.
This might seem unrelated to you, but to me it makes perfect sense. Twitter had once again had fired up my curiousity streak.
Below is the resulting information from a quick scan of the web to find company performance and ranking indicators. Even more information can be gathered from searching inside the linked sites. I didn’t pick up all the info I was after, but at least found a basis of information to research more at a later date.

The bottom line is that twitter has opened up incredible sources for exploring subjects introduced me to many people that I would not have met outside Twitter. Conversations I have had with these individuals have lead me to places that I would have never thought to explore. As a result, I’m in an accelerated learning process. Who knows where it will lead me. Hopefully somewhere great and not to a dark attic where the only thing I hunger after is yet more knowledge. Moderation is, after all the key to success, but right now I do feel a need to stand close to the heat for a while longer at least.
