Twitter as a speed reading trainer

On one of my many journeys through the interweb, I bumped into a link to a little speed reading app called Spreeder. You just add any text you want to read, set the speed & it will play back at the words per minute you have set.

Looking at the text display box i thought sprang to mind. What if i where to adjust it to play back tweet size chunks of words? So after a bit of experimenting i found what i think emulates a 140 character tweet as if displayed on Twitter.

Go to http://spreeder.com, match the settings to the screen shot below & save. Add some random text that you want to read. Now just press play.

You have 3 seconds to read a tweet size portion of text. I already knew this was possible because i do that on a daily basis with twitter. What i didn’t realize was that twitter has been training me to read at around 7 words per second. When conversations get really heated then it is know problem to read even faster.

Anyone else noticed this effect? By the way, setting Spreeder to emulate Twitter will get you through mountains of text in no time at all. Pretty cool. The settings are by no means perfect & so please tweet me some setting suggestions of your own.
